Could it be that the fountain of youth is physical activity? Remember the saying “if you don’t us it you lose it?” I bet you never thought of it could mean losing your life! A recent article published in Lancet of July this year states that physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide.

In another article by Lancet this year, they go on to say that by eliminating physical inactivity you can increase life expectancy. Said in plain English: if you are active, you will live longer.
There is no replacement for physical activity. Our lifestyles do not support much physical activity. We drive everywhere. Food is readily available in the grocery store and at restaurants. We have escalators, elevators, valet parkers (they actually get exercise!), busses, taxi, etc. Most of us spend our working hours at a computer. We have games and TV to entertain us. You don’t even have to go out to be social…you can just go on Facebook!

Exercise used to be survival. Now it is something we have to try to add into our already busy schedule. The scary thing, by not making it a priority and being physically active, you are actually losing some of your life. So think about that the next time you are circling the parking lot for that close parking space…maybe parking further away will look better, like a fountain of youth!!
